Girl power…
As noted in the previous post, the class of 66 had a group of guys who were involved in everything on campus in one way or another. (the purple gang).
Not to be outdone…the class of 68′s Evelyn Aston, shared:
“Us girls just all got together and thought that if they could have a gang – so could WE. So we just picked the color ORANGE and went from there. We all bought orange socks and orange sweat shirts. I remember wearing the orange colors to GAA and Mrs. McBride or Mrs. Lancaster told us we couldn’t ! I don’t know that we were so well known – but we thought we were ‘notorious’…” …
…and with that, the ORANGE GANG was born.
INTERESTINGLY, some of the keywords for ORANGE are: warmth, out going, self assuredness, bright, creativity, courage, relationships, optimism, cheerfulness, and energy.
it was GIRL POWER in the 60′s, and my sister Naomi was a part of that GANG…so i’m super fortunate to know them all personally…..and those words describe this group to a tee!
So now, in the SPIRIT of the FAMILY reunion…..we are thrilled to feature a few of those gals, their siblings, their hubby’s, and their deep, fun-filled and enduring friendships. (not to mention, true love and enduring marriages!)

FAVORITE MEMORY/MEMORIES FROM KENNEDY YEARS: (PEOPLE AND/OR EVENTS) This is an easy one – All my “Orange Gang” Sista’s (Sheryl Ostergaard, Naomi Sekiguchi, Barbara Bozarth, Maureen O’Brien, Kathy Horne, and Becky Schumacher). School was fun. GAA was fun, Songleading was Fun - it was all Good. Here’s one memory for you.. I remember “ironing” my hair before school to straighten it - Please tell me I wasn’t the only one that ever did that ??! And here are a couple of true confessions: To Mac Lough – I’m still real sorry about papering your house with all those little plastic straws ! And to Sonny Mallari – sorry about your house too but your brother scared us when he chased us down the street with a machete.
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES.

FAVORITE MEMORY/MEMORIES FROM KENNEDY YEARS: (PEOPLE AND/OR EVENTS)Hanging with the Orange Gang (Naomi Sekiguchi, Kathy Horne, Evelyn Aston, Maureen O’Brien & Barbara Bozarth) on the weekends. Fun memories of football games and songleading. And don’t forget about all the times we were out toilet papering our friends houses.

WORK/PLAY/RETIREMENT: I am fortunate that I do not have to work so I put in a lot of time at 3 golf clubs as I am an avid golfer. I also play racquetball with Rick in a league. My time away from these interests find me wrapped up in going to grandkids events at school or just spending time with my family.
PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOUR LIFE SINCE SCHOOL : Rick and I have been married for 40 years. In the first few years we lived in New Jersey and then Germany as Rick was in the Army. After he got out we moved back to Anaheim and then Chino. Rick has been employed with a food broker for the last 35 years. Other than odd jobs when needed, I was a stay at home Mom and loved it. At the age of 50 I was recruited to go back to Mt. Sac and join the women’s golf team. During those 2 years we won state finals one year and lost the next year by just a few strokes. I stayed on for 2 more years as an assistant coach.
FAVORITE MEMORY/MEMORIES FROM KENNEDY YEARS: (PEOPLE AND/OR EVENTS) No doubt my fondest memories at Kennedy involve the ‘Orange Gang’ They were my truest friends and we enjoyed many hilarious times together. We even produced a newsletter called the Orange Juicy. I also was very involved in the GAA. I was and still am very athletic.
I must say, my memories of Kennedy were usually after school events. Toilet papering houses, sleep over’s with the Orange Gang, group dates (usually because I was unattached until I met Rick) and putting my friends in the trunk of my Moms car and driving into the drive-in fully believing they would trust that I was there to watch a show alone in my car! Ha The minute I popped the trunk we were chased out of there! So many laughs and dumb stunts. I also loved being a member of ‘Seks Generation’. To this day I brag about being in an all girl band in High School. I still have my tambourine that Naomi gave me. At our last reunion, I brought it and had all the OG girls sign it. One of my fondest keepsakes! In all fairness, I did love going to Kennedy and had many great teachers and counselors. GAA was my haven. I always was and still am very competitive. I am a single digit golfer and I am in 2 racquetball leagues.
